Declaration Of the Mothers En Espanol

Buenos Aires, September 15, 2001

The Association of Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo (a famous square in Buenos Aires) sends this message to the President of the United States, all of the (North) American people, NATO, the U.N., the Organization of American States, members of the Vatican, European parliaments and the Israeli Knesset, so that they may hear our cry:

No to War! No to Massacres That Lead to War! No to Vengeance! No to a New Wave of Genocide!

The fate of the world cannot remain in the exclusive hands of (North) American imperialists. In the name of life, which loves and values all humanity, we all need to say NO TO WAR. When dictatorships in Latin America assassinated more than 150 million people, with American assistance, the response was not revenge, but justice. Mothers in all of Latin America know that genocide took the form of economic programs that brought hunger, unemployment, misery and death to our villages.

The United States and its NATO allies have the most sophisticated weaponry, including biological and chemical weapons, as well as missiles of incalculable reach. Everyone is now well aware of what spent uranium from weapons of war does to the soil for years and years to come. Allowing President Bush to have such broad power borders on madness. A single man cannot and should not be allowed to put all of humanity in danger. For the children, for the mothers, for everyone: No to War.

Hebe de Bonafini, President
Juana de Pargament, Treasurer
Mercedes del Merono, Vice President
